A 6.7 earthquake struck off Vanuatu, 27 kilometers east of the beach town of Port Olry. There was no destructive tsunami, damages to buildings or injuries in this event.  Since January 31st 2013 there have been five earthquakes measuring 6.0 or greater in magnitude according to the U.S Geological survey.

In Ocean City Maryland tremors sparked fears of an earthquake or explosion.

On January 7th 2014 there were reports of loud booms in Chesterfield Virginia, so there have been mysterious booms not that far away from Ocean City. –source

A small earthquake struck off the California Coast measuring 4.2 in magnitude in California yesterday. Some residents did report light shaking in the area according to the U.S Geological survey.

Volcanic Activity

At the Etna volcano in Italy lava continues to flow from the fissure vent at the South East Crater. Nishino-shima volcano Islands is showing that the vent has been feeding several active lava flow fronts.

The Dukono Halmahera volcano is showing low – level ash plumes, which is suggesting explosive activity. Intense activity

is reported at the Fuego volcano in Guatemala, lava flow on the upper southern slope had decreased to only 75 m in length.

San Cristobal volcano in Nicaragua has shown a series of small phreatic explosions occurred at the volcano’s summit crater on Tuesday. There was at least two explosions which produced ash plumes rising to 200 m in height.-source

Extreme Weather

Winds reaching up to 120 kilometers cut off power to 55,000 households, along with rain and flooding shops and homes in north and west France on Thursday. Five storms have hit Britain as well since December 15th, causing floods, power cuts and leaving the area waterlogged. – source

Gas Explosion & Train Derailment

There is a pending investigation on whether a natural gas leak caused an explosion on Thursday that inured president of Brentwood’s Emergency Medical Services and destroyed his home. – source

A freight train carrying 720 tonnes of Ammonia derailed near Huelva, the leak was under control from the first tank, and there is currently no danger to the public. –source

Building Collapse

An elderly woman was killed in Italy today, when a residential building collapsed due to a gas explosions. Another building collapse took place in Palermo as an abandoned building collapsed, good news is that there were no injuries in this event. source 1| source 2

Power Outages

In Perryville a power outage cut off power to 3,500 customers.

“We’re not sure what happened,” said Denise Breder, town administrator. “We are on automatic delivery. It did have fuel.” – source

A power outage continues in little Elm area, with, 50 percent of the customers in the area had power restored. – source

A power outage on the University of Hawaii Manoa campus forced many students to shift their classrooms. – source

U.S 30 traffic lights are now back on and working normally now after a whitley power outage. –source
