 Volcanic Activity

The Klyuchevskoy volcano is currently undergoing a strong explosive phase, with an ash plume which rose to approximately 20,000 feet in altitude and then drifted 400 km to the east. This is some of the strongest activity since the 20th of November this year. Good news, this volcano has seemed to calm down as of today.

Power Outages

Starting in Coluse County 3,900 customers were left in the dark as the Christmas Tyme in Colusa event was underway. One of the people affected by the power outage had this to say:

“I’m making the best of it. You cannot control the weather,” said Laura Garcia of Colusa. “We are warming ourselves by eating homemade salsa.” – source

10’s of thousands of people in Benton Arkansas were left without power Friday morning, and power crews are working around the clock to get everything up and running again. On top of the massive power outage there were icy road conditions, here is what one driver had to say:

“The roads were pretty icy, and there were tracks made. I-430 looked like there had been a grater run through, cleaning it up, so if you stayed in the tracks of the grater, you were fine,” said one driver. –

The south side of Cranford was without power on Friday night due to a transformer failure, according to a police
department in the area. Thieves attempted to call customers without power and ask for an immediate payment via
a money gram/western union, however, Cranford Police suggest anyone who has received this call, contact PSE&G customer service center at 800-436-PSEG (7734) to verify the call.  – source

240,000 people were left without power in Dallas and Collin Counties as of December the 6th, as what is being called Icemageddon has crippled the area. Freezing rain has turned to ice overnight, and accumulated on tree limbs and leaves. – Source

In Syria there was a power outage which was reported in most neighborhoods.

Drought Conditions

In Des Moines Iowa, a fifth of the state is currently in severe drought heading into the cold weather season. The month of November has been dryer than normal, with only 1.6 inches of rain compared with the 30-year normal of just over 2 inches. – source

In central Illinois drought conditions have hurt tree farmers as the conditions have hurt sales in 2013. Here is a quote from one of the farmers in the area:

“The drought really hurt our seedling growth,” said Toni Krone, who along with her husband, Randy, owns Krone Christmas Tree Farm at Riverton. “The two years before this, we lost everything we planted. This year hasn’t been quite as bad.”- source

Building Collapse In Mumbai

Four engineers of BMC have been arrested after a building collapsed on a dockyard in Mumbai, this event killed 61 people.

Extreme Weather

Just 8 hours ago floods in Libya have left 6 dead and 400 houses have been damaged in the area. In the United Kingdom storms have wreaked havoc in the area, as the worst tidal floods in 60 years have hit the east coast England and caused several homes to fall into the sea at Hemsby in Norfold. High winds in Northern Europe have been hit by severe winds, and 7 flights have been shut down.

Four people have died in Brazil as torrential rains went across Rio de Janeiro, as mudslides and rain has caused destruction. And a storm in Denmark has caused the worst flooding in 100 years, with 400 houses that have been evacuated.
