There has been a red alert issued for homeowners in Britain, with new gale force winds and heavy rain. So far there has been two people who have been swept out to sea due to the swelling rivers, and more are currently missing.

Nobody knows why this water main break took place, which has been the ongoing story for many of the water main breaks, train derailments, and large gas explosions as of late.
Massive Power Outages
9,000 residents in the Riverbed, Maple Ridge, Willow Park and Acadia areas were without power for the New Year’s. The good news is that power was later restored to about 4,5000 customers in the area at 2:20 p.m. –source
In Rock Hill 2,500 customers experienced a power outage on the morning of New Year’s Day. A tree fell in the area, and power was restored not to long after the event. – source
The Sudbary patch storm center announced that classes were cancelled as of Friday as a winter storm has caused a power outages and accidents. –source
In Jersey city there were 1,700 PSE&G customers left without power at around 9:15 a.m. –source
2,000 customers were also left without power in Dubuque after a snow plow puled down a power line on accident. –source
In Calgary there ware a total of 8,856 customers without electricity for over an hour after a widespread outage in the city’s southeast region.
Collapsing Ground Traps A Man
In the Hillsborough County area, one person fell fell into the ground and was trapped as it collapsed. The incident took place at the South County Waste Water Treatment Plant. The pipeline that the person was walking on was near a construction site. –source

A 5.5 earthquake took place in Iran today, and killed 1 person in a small town. 16 people were injured in this event, and 14 have been released. After shocks were felt after the 5.5 earthquakes took place.

Volcanoes have been more than active as of late as the Mount Sinabung volcano has shown continuing eruptions. Every 15 minutes there are pyroclastic flows coming from the growing lava dome. Here is footage of mount Sinabung:
